Awards & Recognition

Scouts work hard to achieve their goals. And we recognize that dedication with a series of awards. While the benefits of rewarding our Scout and volunteers is vast, these are the top three.

CELEBRATION

Awards show the value in setting and achieving individual goals, a fundamental lesson of Scouting. And this extends beyond the members of our troops: we celebrate the achievement of adult leaders as well. We all strive to be better and we all work as hard as we can. The validation of the time invested is a powerful tool.

MOTIVATION

A by-product of receiving an award is the motivation to set even higher goals as a way to continue to be awarded for achievements. Recognition amongst your peers is a powerful motivator for everyone, not just the award recipient. Scouts push themselves and each other equally.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Scouts are never complacent. That’s even more true when there is the motivation for ongoing recognition. Perhaps it’s learning how to take on a larger leadership role, mentoring a fellow Scout or developing a risk-taking mindset that allows Scouts to better serve their communities in times of crisis. It can even be as simple as identifying and overcoming blockers an adult leader routinely faces. Scouts never settle.

Montana Council Recognition

Eagle Scout

Since 1912, the Eagle Scout rank has represented a milestone of accomplishment—perhaps without equal—that is recognized across the country and even the world. Those who have earned the Eagle Scout rank count it among their most treasured achievements. “Eagle Scout” is not just an award; it is a state of being. Those who earned it as youth continue to earn it every day as adults. That is why an Eagle Scout IS an Eagle Scout—not was.

100 Degrees of Frost

The 100 Degrees of Frost Award is awarded to any Scout or Adult Scouter who earns 100 or more below-freezing points between September 1 and May 31.

One hundred degrees of frost are required to earn this award in each qualifying period. For example, one night of camping, with a low temperature of 10° Fahrenheit, will net each camper with 22 degrees of frost. (32 degrees minus 10 degrees equals 22 degrees of frost points.) This will apply to only the youth and adults camping, not the troop or patrol as a whole.
