Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to visit both of our outstanding Montana summer camps – Camp Melita Island and K-M Scout Ranch. I met with our camp staff, toured the facilities, and saw firsthand the tremendous preparation underway.
I left both camps inspired and excited for what undoubtedly will be one of our best summer seasons yet.
That success does not happen by accident. It is the result of dedicated camp leadership, hardworking staff members, and facilities crews who have invested countless hours preparing our properties and programs for the young people and families we serve. To each of them, thank you.
This summer also carries special significance as our nation celebrates its 250th birthday. Scouting has been part of the American story for 116 of those years.
Both our country and the Montana Council have experienced periods of tremendous growth, difficult challenges, and significant change. Through every season, however, good people and worthy causes have remained steadfast.
The spirit of America was built on the backs of laborers and believers – people willing to work hard, sacrifice, serve their neighbors, and believe in something greater than themselves. The Montana Council has been built in much the same way: by volunteers who give their time, parents who encourage their children, donors who invest in our mission, and staff members who dedicate their careers to serving young people.
Every contribution matters. Some are highly visible, while others happen quietly behind the scenes. Together, they make Scouting possible in communities throughout Montana.
Thank you for the many ways – both big and small – that you continue to support Scouting. Your commitment allows us to prepare young people for lives of leadership, service, character, citizenship, and adventure.
Here’s to a great summer. Here’s to continuing to grow Scouting throughout Montana. And here’s to the people who have carried this mission forward for generations.
