The Island Scout Has Landed

Camp Melita Island – Flathead Lake – Montana Council

Starting in 2026, Scouts, units, and families heading to Camp Melita Island will make their entrance in style aboard the Island Scout – a 44-foot symmetrical planing catamaran that will shuttle passengers from the Melita Island Gateway across beautiful Flathead Lake.

The vessel’s twin planing hulls are engineered for speed, stability, and fuel efficiency, offering a smooth ride whether cruising or at rest. With a capacity of 49 passengers, the Island Scout makes onboarding and offboarding faster, safer, and more efficient. And with a cruising speed of 35 mph – and a top speed of 54 mph – the trip across the lake promises to be as exhilarating as the camp week itself.

Besides streamlining unit arrivals and departures, the Island Scout will be used throughout the week for off-island adventures and cruises.

Four 300-horsepower Yamaha outboards provide the muscle, while a drop bow design allows Scouts to step directly onto the beach. Built by ACI Boats of Port Townsend, Wash., the Island Scout represents a bold new chapter for Melita Island.

A heartfelt thank you to the donors whose generosity brought this incredible vessel to life!
