Understanding Donor Recognition Levels

Ways To Support Montana's Scouting Youth & Volunteers

There are several ways to support Scouting America, Montana Council, and each giving program has its own purpose and donor recognition levels. Understanding the differences can help you decide how you’d like to invest in Scouting’s future.

Here’s a guide to our four donor recognition programs and how your generosity makes a difference for youth across Montana.

Investment in Character and Leadership (ICL)

Our annual Investment in Character and Leadership (ICL) campaign provides essential funding for the day-to-day operations of Scouting in Montana. These gifts support our staff and offices, help local units deliver quality programs, and contribute to the success of our camps.

ICL donors receive recognition through campaign-specific patches and coins at various giving levels. Donors who contribute $1,000 or more also receive an exclusive invitation to the Chairman’s Reception at our annual convention.

James E. West Fellowship

The James E. West Fellowship recognizes gifts of $1,000 or more to the Montana Council’s endowment fund.

Unlike operating gifts, endowment contributions are invested rather than spent on immediate expenses. The fund generates earnings that can help offset operating costs and provide greater financial stability for Scouting over time.

James E. West Fellows receive a presentation binder containing a certificate, along with coordinating pins and patches that recognize their level of giving. Donors are also invited to the Chairman’s Reception at our annual convention.

Endowment gifts help build a stronger financial foundation for Montana Scouting’s future.

Good Turn Society

The Good Turn Society recognizes donors who make a one-time gift of $25,000 or more. This special recognition honors significant investments in Scouting and its mission.

Good Turn Society members receive an invitation to the Chairman’s Reception at our annual convention, along with a certificate and coordinating pins recognizing their membership. As donors make additional qualifying gifts, they can advance to higher recognition levels based on their cumulative giving.

Team 315 Club

We know many generous supporters have contributed $25,000 or more to Montana Council over time, even if their giving did not begin with the single gift required for Good Turn Society membership.

To recognize these donors, the Team 315 Club honors individuals whose cumulative giving reaches $25,000 or more.

Team 315 Club members receive an invitation to the Chairman’s Reception at our annual convention, along with a certificate and pin recognizing their cumulative giving level.

This program ensures that donors who have consistently supported Scouting over the years receive recognition for their generosity and lasting commitment.

Should You Give to ICL or the Endowment?

We’re often asked whether it’s better to contribute to ICL or the endowment fund. The answer is that both are essential to the strength and future of Scouting in Montana.

ICL supports the work happening today, helping provide the staff, resources, and programs that serve youth and volunteers across our state. Endowment gifts help establish a lasting financial resource that can support Scouting for generations to come.

Rather than choosing between an apple and an orange, why not enjoy a little fruit salad? When donors support both funds, they help meet today’s needs while investing in tomorrow’s opportunities.

Thank You for Investing in Montana’s Youth

Every gift makes a difference. Whether you support annual operations, contribute to our endowment, or give at a level recognized through one of our donor programs, your generosity helps create opportunities for young people to grow in character, develop leadership skills, and become the leaders our communities need.

Thank you for being part of Scouting’s future in Montana.

Yours in Scouting,

Julie Evans
Director of Development, Montana Council
