Welcome Genie Funk, District Executive

Prickly Pear & Vigilante Districts

The Montana Council is excited to introduce Genie Funk as the new District Executive for the Prickly Pear and Vigilante Districts.

Originally from Oklahoma, Genie Funk brings a lifelong passion for youth development, community engagement, and leadership in Scouting. After a ten-year professional hiatus devoted to family and community service, she has returned to the Scouting organization with renewed purpose and a deep commitment to empowering the next generation.

Genie’s journey with Scouting began in 2003 when her eldest son joined Cub Scouts. Since then, she has been continuously involved in various capacities —serving as a troop leader, assistant den leader, committee member, and dedicated volunteer.

As a mother of four, Genie supported both of her sons through their Scouting experiences across three states and four councils. Simultaneously, she was actively involved in her daughters’ journey through the Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, reinforcing her belief in the value of youth organizations that foster leadership, service, and resilience.

Professionally, Genie brings a strong background in organizational leadership, community outreach, and nonprofit coordination.

Her career spans roles in education, ministry, and public service, where she developed programs that connected families, supported underserved communities, and promoted civic responsibility. Her work is characterized by a focus on relational leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and building networks of volunteers to create a lasting impact.

In her role as a District Executive, Genie is passionate about expanding community partnerships, supporting unit leaders and volunteers, and strengthening the presence of Scouting in Montana’s diverse communities. She believes that Scouting offers not only practical skills but also a foundation for ethical decision-making and lifelong service.

Genie’s move to Helena marks both a new chapter and a return to her roots, where her love for the outdoors, community, and youth mentorship come together. Her leadership is guided by a belief in the transformative power of scouting and a dedication to cultivating strong, resilient young leaders for tomorrow.

Welcome, Genie, to Team 315!
