Eagle Scout Elaine Reed (Troop 1941 – G, Northwest District) was recently recognized by Montana State University-Northern for both her campus involvement and her scholastic endeavors. Elaine, who completed her sophomore year at MSU-Northern, received the Mavis Filler Farnham Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a Northern student who excels in the classroom, is involved in their community, and has made an impact in their community.
In addition to her scholarship, Elaine was selected as the Orientation Leader of the Year and was one of 12 students to receive the coveted Student Excellence Award.
“Since 1982, MSU-Northern has honored outstanding students with the Student Excellence Awards – recognizing individuals who have achieved personal, academic, and professional success while making impactful contributions to the campus, local, and global communities. These awards celebrate students who demonstrate a strong dedication to academic excellence and active campus involvement. Recipients consistently uphold high standards, lead with integrity, and serve as role models in their pursuit of well-rounded growth and engagement.”

Elaine has been actively involved both on Northern’s campus and in the Havre community, serving as a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, Peer Tutor, Chi Alpha group leader, and youth leader at Community Alliance Church. Over spring break this year, she joined ten other Northern students, faculty, and community members on a Study Abroad trip to London.
Elaine was part of the inaugural class of girls who earned the Eagle Rank in 2021.
Earlier this spring, Elaine took time out of her busy schedule to meet with girls in Scouts BSA Troop 1406 (Havre) to encourage and to energize those Scouts. She said being in Scouting has helped her become more assertive and improve her public speaking skills. Elaine also said that being in Scouts assisted her in trying different things and facing uncomfortable situations (like winter camping).
Elaine Reed is a great example of stepping out of your comfort zone, serving others, and demonstrating how to be a great role model.
