For nearly 30 years, Montana Scouts have sold more popcorn per Scout than any other Scout Council in America. Last year alone, our Scouts sold almost $1.3 million in popcorn – but the impact of that success goes far beyond the sale itself.
The annual Popcorn Sale helps Scouts set goals, build confidence, practice salesmanship, and learn perseverance.
When a Scout stands on a doorstep and asks someone to support them, they are developing skills that will serve them long beyond their time in Scouting. They gain confidence when a customer says yes and learn perseverance when the answer is no. When Montana communities buy popcorn from a Scout, they are investing in young people, and the opportunities Scouting provides.
As a parent of two Scouts who have participated in the sale every year, I have seen those benefits firsthand. My kids love setting goals and working toward prizes, but what I value most are the experiences they gain along the way – talking with friends, family, neighbors, community leaders, and even complete strangers.
Popcorn has also helped our family and the units we have belonged to fund countless Scouting adventures, from Cub Scout Day Camp and summer camp at K-M Scout Ranch and Melita Island to monthly troop campouts, National High Adventure Bases, National Jamborees, and World Jamborees.
I love that my kids can help fund their own adventures while reducing the out-of-pocket cost for our family. Nearly all revenue from the sale goes back to Scouts through unit commissions and incentives, helping make Scouting more accessible for more families.
The Popcorn Sale gives Scouts more ownership of their Scouting journey. With a plan, goals, and focused effort, they can help fund the adventures they want to experience while building valuable skills and confidence along the way.
Thank you to the volunteers who make the sale possible, the parents who encourage their Scouts, and the Montana communities that continue to support them. You are helping make Scouting more affordable, accessible, and rewarding for young people across our state.
Happy selling, and thank you for helping Montana Scouts make Scouting possible through the Popcorn Sale!
