Volunteers Needed: K-M ATV Program

Help The Next Generation Ride Smart & Safe

As the ATV program at K-M Scout Ranch continues to grow, we are seeking Licensed ATV Instructors and ATV Program Assistants to help deliver safe, hands-on learning for the next generation of riders. One great instructor can change how a young rider approaches safety for a lifetime.

This is a rewarding opportunity to help youth learn responsible riding practices in a controlled environment. Past participants consistently say the ATV program is the highlight of their camp experience – and our volunteers make that possible.

If you’re interested in helping or have questions, please review the position outlines below and contact Dan Moore at dmoore3349@gmail.com.

Licensed ATV Instructors teach the ATV RiderCourse, a four-day program developed by the ATV Safety Institute (ASI). This course is taught exclusively by ASI-licensed instructors who have completed a comprehensive training program and meet specific licensing requirements.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Some ATV riding experience required

Not a licensed ATV instructor? No problem! We are currently working to secure approval for an instructor preparation course to be held at K-M this spring. The course requires a minimum of six participants. For Montana Council applicants, the council will cover the cost of the course in exchange for a commitment to serve one or more weeks of camp for three to five years.

ATV Program Assistants support licensed instructors by helping with daily course logistics. Responsibilities include setting up riding exercises, shuttling machines, performing light maintenance, and assisting with trail ride supervision.

Additional details:

  • Some ATV riding experience is preferred
  • Training will be provided during camp
  • A commitment of one week or more is ideal

Both positions are volunteer roles. Volunteers receive food and lodging, along with some bonus ATV riding opportunities. Limited space is available for adults with travel trailers or RVs. Youth and young adult volunteers (ages 16–20) will stay in the staff campsite.

Please note that all volunteers—adult and youth—must complete the same application, contract, and paperwork process required of all camp staff.
