Last week, while organizing and cleaning through some older items in our Great Falls office, I came across a collection of photos and descriptions of our volunteers from the late 70s and 80s.
As I carefully logged these volunteers, I couldn’t help but be struck by their remarkable contributions. Their dedication and commitment to Scouting were truly impressive. I compiled their photos and stories into a scrapbook, taking a moment to appreciate the incredible time and energy they devoted to our communities.
Reflecting on these past volunteers, I also thought about the volunteers we have today. I asked myself, “Do we still have people who give that kind of time and effort to Scouting?”
After some thought, I realized that the answer is a resounding yes.
In our busy world, it’s easy to assume that people no longer have the time to volunteer in the same way. The truth is there are many individuals who dedicate themselves to helping others. Whether through Scouting or other causes, we are fortunate to have people who step up, give their time, and make a real difference.
These individuals are the true heroes of our communities.
We recently announced three new recipients of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. This award honors those who have made significant contributions to a local Scout Council. These individuals have certainly earned this distinction through their selfless service and unwavering commitment. Their hard work and dedication are deserving of this high recognition, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.
To all the volunteers who put on the uniform, who give their time, and who are always ready to help—please accept my heartfelt thanks. The work you do matters, and it does not go unnoticed. Perhaps 50 years from now, someone will come across your picture, read your story, and, just like I did, reflect on the extraordinary commitment of some truly remarkable people.
Thank you for everything you do for the Montana Council and for the Scouts we serve. You are making a lasting impact, and your efforts are appreciated more than words can express.
Sincerely,
Jory Dellinger
